DECEMBER 2021

Friday 3 December 2021

Finally?! My friend D, has come to stay for a few days. This trip has been cancelled twice due to lock down and not being able to have anyone in our houses.

Watching the news! Is this really ‘headline news’??? A Downing Street Xmas party that did (or did not) happen a year ago? Surely there’s more important things going on in the world right now? It happened a year ago…………. All I’ve heard on the news all day is ‘Downing Street Xmas Party’ last year. At the end of the day, all these people were working with each other, day in, day out. Does Covid know the difference between people working together and people having a party? True it shouldn't have happened, especially as the rest of the world were told that they couldn't meet up with family and friends, but at the end of the day, it's history. It happened. Nobody can change that now. I'm not saying don't investigate it and find out who broke the rules, but surely there must be more news worthy of being in the headlines.

A party a year ago should not be headline news. There must be loads more things happening in the world right now that we're just not hearing about.

Friday 10 December 2021

OK…….. so I was hoping to arrange a little ‘Party’ (obv not a Downing St cheese & wine size party?!) in between Christmas & New Year (possibly 27/8th Dec) to drink all these cans before they go out of date but just watching the News and apparently ‘Nicola’ says we can’t have parties???? Actually she hasn’t said we can’t have parties; she’s just advised that we shouldn’t…………….

Mmmmmm……… went out for dinner at the Steak House tonight and it was absolutely mobbed. Everyone was really crammed in, so I think having a few people in my flat would be less of a risk than going out to a restaurant……………..

And as for ‘omicron’…………… COVID isn’t going to go away. There’s going to be loads of different variants for years to come. Surely we just need to get on with our lives???

If we stay hidden away forever, we’re not actually going to have a life are we????

Saturday 11 December 2021

I've been in my new job at Wilkies for three weeks now and I love it. After almost two years of Covid/lockdown/restrictions, etc, etc, I'm really happy to be doing a job in a lovely shop with lovely staff and customers. The most important part of the job is interacting with the customers and to have been so long without human interaction it's brilliant that I'm actually getting paid to do it now. Still wearing the masks (and if Nicola has her way, I'm sure we will be for a long time yet) and the 'screens' in front of the till are a bit annoying, but hey ho; it's a job and I'm mixing with lots of people again.

New style LFT done and all is good. So much easier to use than the first type. Having said that, I only used the old style one, once, when I went to my brother-in-laws party in the summer. Haven't needed to do one since then.

Friday 17 December 2021

No LFT tests in the chemists in my local area this afternoon and yet we're being told to do one every time we go on public transport or go to the shops??? I'm working in a shop and I'm travelling on public transport at least 4/5 times a week??? So what do I do?............... Oh and I tried to order online a couple of days ago but couldn't do that either.

Sunday 19 December 2021

First it was toilet rolls, then pasta, then hand sanitizer. Now it would appear that it's Lateral Flow Tests that are in short supply?! When will this ever end? It seems like every time I switch on the TV, Jason Leitch (National Clinical Director of the Scottish Government) is there telling people to do a LFT every time they go out. Seems that this year's most wanted gift is a LFT. Lol! There wasn't even any available to order online a couple of days ago.

I can't say I'm worried. I've been triple jabbed and I don't personally feel at risk.

Oh and can anyone explain why Nicola is advising that only three households should meet indoors (that means I can only have two single friends in my house), when it was perfectly OK for 50,000 people to go to a football match yesterday?

Monday 20 December 2021

Does anyone else think that we'll be back in lock down by the New Year? Still haven't managed to pick up any LFTs or order them online. What a shambles!

Tuesday 21 December 2021

Went out this evening for a few drinkies in the local pub with the 'Wonderful Women of Wilkies', before Nicola closes everything down yet again. If this happens, then the hospitality industry will die. Pubs/restaurants are already on their knees. They will not survive another lock down.

Still finding it extremely difficult to get any LFTs. Couldn't get any in my local area but managed to get the very last box from a chemist 2 miles down the road. Yay!!

So here we are................... one year on from last Christmas, when we were told, if we didn't see friends/family, then Christmas 2021 would be absolutely fabulous. Christmas 2021 is NOT going to be fabulous................... And I suspect New Year is going to be less fabulous.........

...........As of today............... Everything in Scotland seems to have been cancelled.

Thursday 23 December 2021

The queue outside the local Cheese Shop before it opened at 8am was just ridiculous.

Friday 24 December 2021

Spent a lovely Christmas Eve with my support bubble, S, and her family (son, wife & grandchildren) who are staying with her for Christmas. I honestly don't think I would have got through lock down without her.

Saturday 25 December 2021

I've had one of my nicest Christmas Day's ever.

I, came round and his Christmas Pressie to me was a ring.............. bespoke in Stirling Silver with little hearts on it...................... OMG................... Only 30 years too late darling!!!

Anyway I cooked dinner (shoved a few 'Cook Shop' items into the oven) and we had a lovely day.

Thanks. I.

Having said that, I certainly didn't think, last year, that we'd still be living under all these restrictions. Do you think we'll ever get back to normal?

Monday 27 December 2021

Had the girlies (5 of them) round for lunch. It was nice. Is that allowed? Does anyone even know what the rules are these days????

Thursday 30 December 2021

Should have been sitting in my flat having Prosecco & nibbles with two friends tonight. Unfortunately the friend that I spent Xmas Day with has tested positive for Covid. Soooooooooo................ Christmas Day was Saturday, he'd probably had Covid for at least a couple of days before that................. and I've not got it..................so is there any risk?

As a 'responsible person', I let my friends know (because they are some of my more paranoid friends).................. and, as, expected they have cancelled coming to see me................

Obviously, everyone has a choice and I would hate to be responsible for any of my friends putting themselves at risk. On the other hand, I personally (& these are only my views), think that anyone who is putting their life on hold because someone they know has been in contact with someone (almost a week ago) who has Covid is................... well, it's just not living your life is it? And also, these particular friends, have actually been in Edinburgh to visit their mother, but are staying in a hotel to 'keep her safe'??? I don't get that? They're staying in a hotel (and presumably breakfasting in a restaurant with other guests & touching things like door handles/lift buttons etc) but visiting their mother every day and are going to take her out for dinner tomorrow evening. How mad is that? Does Covid know when you're only visiting for a couple of hours and decide not to strike? If you're sitting in a restaurant around a table (when you will almost certainly be less than 2m away from each other) does it decide, that because you're paying an absolute fortune, it won't bother infecting you?

If these particular friends had come to my house, they could have sat together on one sofa and I would have sat on the other, and I can guarantee without a doubt, that we would not have been as close to each other as they will be in a restaurant tomorrow evening.

Personally, I think that people are now using Covid as a selective excuse to do what they've always wanted to do. Ie, I don't think my friend's husband wants to stay with his mother-in-law, so he's using the 'keeping you safe from Covid' thing as an excuse to stay in a hotel.

Friday 31 December 2021

Who would have thought a year ago we'd still be living under all these restrictions??? When will this ever end?.......................

I don't really 'do' New Year which is probably just as well as everything has been cancelled. No street parties, no torch light procession and no fireworks. And the guidance is............... only three households can meet up indoors. Well that's hardly a party if you're single with single friends, is it? And yet households of 6+ people (who are all out and about doing their own thing, ie students) can meet up with another two households of 6+ people, so people who already are mixing with a lot of people can mix with loads and single people can only see another two.

The rules are crazy!!! Thank goodness I'm heading down to my Cornish home soon.

And in other news............... I worked this morning and was going to pop into Waitrose or M&S to get myself some tasty little treats for tonight but the queues outside each place were mega long, so I didn't bother. It does seem to suggest that everyone's NY Eve parties are going ahead though doesn't it?

Happy New Year. Here's hoping that 2022 is going to be a lot better than 2020 & 2021.
