I seriously cannot believe that Wimbledon has been allowed to go ahead when the rest of us are still wearing masks and are limited to how many people we can see?!
Tuesday 6 July 2021
Managed to get a booking in the Porthgwidden Beach Cafe tonight with a couple of friends. Very limited menu and to be honest it wasn't that great!

My friend, F, has come to stay for a few days.

World cup final and it's Italy versus England. Went for a wander around town. Compared to how busy it's been recently, it was eerily quiet. Italy won!

Was due to go out for lunch tomorrow but I've just had a call from the restaurant to say that two of the chefs have tested positive for Covid so now the rest of the staff have to self-isolate and now the restaurant is closed.
Pretty much every single restaurant/pub/shop in town have notices up in their windows looking for staff which isn't actually very good considering that the hospitality industry has been closed for 8 months of the past year. I think the hospitality industry is suffering because people have been furloughed for so long that they now don't want to go back to work or they've got other jobs, mainly in call centres or as delivery drivers.
Life seems a lot harder now than it was last year. A year ago we were all going out and about, doing the 'eat out, to help out' scheme. Most people my age have been double vaccinated but I have a lot of friends who are more scared to go out now than they were last year. Why?

If lock down has taught me anything; it's taught me to appreciate what I have here and now. On Saturday I'm heading back to Edinburgh. I'd love just to stay here for the summer (freedom day is Monday in England) but unfortunately I decided to do the sensible thing and make some money so my house here is now rented out until September.
I definitely need to re-evaluate my life.
Does anyone know what the rules are in Scotland these days?
Friday 16 July 2021
For the first time in my life, I have done a Covid test, and what a traumatic experience it was. Sticking the swab stick down my throat was awful. I don't think it went anywhere near my tonsils so I did extra rubbing around up my nose. Thank God it’s negative, though personally I think these tests are a waste of time ‘cos I could test positive tomorrow. Oh well, hey ho, at least it means I can stop off at my sister's in Derbyshire en-route to Edinburgh (which has a high COVID rate) from St Ives (which has a high COVID rate) and attend my brother-in-laws 60th Birthday bash, in the garden, with 30 other people (wouldn't be allowed to do that in Scotland cos only 15 people are allowed to meet outside). Guess I’d better make the most of it ‘cos it doesn’t look like I’ll be going to any parties in Scotland for a while.

Lovely evening in my sister's garden celebrating my brother-in-laws 60th birthday. So nice to be able to mix with 30 people again, though obviously I'm not going to be able to do that once I get back to Scotland tomorrow, because Nicola is on a right old power trip and seems to be intent on keeping us locked up forever?!!!
…...........And to think that during the first lock down, I actually admired, First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon and thought that she was doing a brilliant job. Now I just wish that Boris was in charge of Scotland and that we were all free again.

Back in Edinburgh. Wonder if this summer is going to be any better than last summer?
Monday 19 July 2021
Just had a moment of panic when I got ‘pinged’ on the English Track & Trace app. Fortunately it was only telling me that most legal restrictions have been lifted in England. Phew! Wonder how long it will take the Scottish app to tell me that??????
Saturday 24 July 2021
Went out with the girlies to the 'Slug & Lettuce' on George Street for lunch. After our two hour allocated slot, we knew we wouldn't be able to find anywhere else to have a drink, so we came prepared.................. Bottles of wine in our bags, so we sat in Prince's Street Gardens for a couple of hours.
When will life ever be back to normal?
Sunday 25 July 2021
Just taken another 'Lateral Flow Test' to show a friend how to do it, as the 20 page instruction booklet is way too complicated for the average person. ……..Negative again. Yay! However I have to say I’m not sure if I totally agree with daily testing as opposed to self isolation? How long is the incubation period? I’m negative today but could be positive tomorrow?!! And I’ve been out and about all over the place since I did my last test. I honestly don’t understand what the point of these tests are. Can anyone enlighten me???????

It's my friend, Ks, birthday today so I trekked down to her house (about 4 miles) with Trixie, the Collie pup. Originally she was going to have a bit of a birthday bash in the garden, though who knows how many people can actually meet outside in Scotland these days? Anyway, she's hurt her leg so the party has been cancelled.
K is supposed to be looking after Trixie next month when I go to Glasgow for two nights. This is for a city break that was originally supposed to be happening last December???
I'm mega nervous about this. I got Trixie in February 2019 and spent a year training her to become a 'perfect pooch'. She IS a perfect pooch, but I've never, ever, left her with anyone else, because the three holidays I had booked last year obviously all got cancelled.
This lock down thing hasn't just affected humans. Even our pets are going to have mental health issues.
